Scuba gas awareness

Scuba gas awareness begins before the label.

Know Your Gas connects three separate responsibilities: analyze the gas, verify the information, and keep it with the correct cylinder.

Familiar is a feeling. Verified is a result.

Analyze · Verify · Identify

The three actions belong together. Each one answers a different question, and none of them transfers responsibility to a website, label, or app.

Analyze

Ground the next decision in a measurement made with appropriate equipment and training—not in the fill you expected or the label that was already there.

Verify

Give the information, the cylinder, and its intended use a deliberate second look. A check only matters if it is allowed to reveal disagreement.

Identify

Keep reviewed information clear as the cylinder moves between people and places. The next person should not need your memory to understand the handoff.

A check must work on an ordinary day.

Attention is limited. Routine can make an omitted step feel normal. Time pressure can narrow what is noticed. Experience changes what a diver recognizes, but it does not remove the possibility of missing something.

A useful practice expects those conditions. It makes the important question easier to ask and the important information easier to find.

What this website cannot decide

This page is awareness content, not training or a gas-analysis procedure. It does not determine whether a gas is suitable for a dive. Follow your training, applicable standards, appropriate equipment, and qualified instruction.
